A small sampling of antique art from tools in my growing collection. All are handcrafted in the 1800s. Most of the designs are flourishes, foliate accents, botanical themes, which I emboss into precious metal. If you are looking for a particular design, contact me. It may be something I have or something I can create.
This page shows just a few examples of antique art from tools that I have collected over the years. Actually, the very first ones were found in a dusty box under a shelf of books inside an old barn. Caroline and I were driving home from a weekend in Vermont and saw the "barn sale" sign and decided to stop. Some of our best finds are from unexpected places. I carefully restore each tool, and depending on the condition, use them sparingly, many not at all. Caroline once wrote, "The creative essence of Al's work and the craftsmanship from long ago fuse together into the permanence of metal and stone." I'm drawn to old world hand methods, and think she captured what I find most satisfying about making pieces that directly connect to the past. |
